The Danish Nature Foundation
The Danish Nature Fund is an independent, non-profit foundation working to protect and restore Danish nature through land acquisition, nature restoration, and biodiversity projects. The fund was established in 2015 by the Danish government, VILLUM FONDEN, and the Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation, with a starting capital of DKK 875 million.
Main Objectives and Activities:
Land Acquisition and Nature Protection – The Danish Nature Fund purchases forests, meadows, bogs, and other natural areas to secure them as wild nature forever. The focus is on restoring habitats for endangered species and strengthening biodiversity.
Nature Restoration and Rewilding – The fund works to recreate natural ecosystems by removing drainage systems, halting forestry, and allowing nature to develop freely. Projects such as bog, wetland, and ancient forest restoration aim to benefit endangered species like the hazel dormouse, great crested newt, and Eurasian golden plover.
Protection of Biodiversity – The fund supports projects that promote rare species and their habitats, combats invasive species, reestablishes natural water systems, and ensures connectivity between natural areas.
Collaboration with Landowners and Municipalities – The Danish Nature Fund collaborates with private landowners, municipalities, and other organizations to carry out nature projects on their land. The fund provides financial support for projects where agricultural land is converted into nature areas.
Public Access and Outdoor Recreation – The fund works to make more natural areas accessible to the public, through trails, viewing towers, and educational materials, while ensuring protection of the nature.
Funding and Support – The Danish Nature Fund receives financial support from the government, private foundations, and donations from companies and individuals. The fund invests these resources in nature projects that secure more and better nature in Denmark.
Givskud Zoo Nature Foundation
We have chosen to support this important work through land acquisition projects, helping to create more habitats for wild animals and plants, and providing opportunities for people to experience spectacular nature on nature’s terms.
